Yachts and Boats Sales are Expected to Rise 5.4% Annually

The market size globally for yacht sales was over 8 billion in 2021, and is expected to grow at 5.4% per year until 2030.

Why the Increased Demand for Yachts?

Demand has increased over the last few years due to a growing interest in luxury tourism, leisure travel, personalized tourism, and a desire to upgrade one’s current vessel. Also, pandemic stay-at-home orders increased the desire for vacation activities and many consumers expanded their interests in boating, and novice sailors became more confident and wanting larger boats for their families.

Another factor is a rising demand for tournaments that have improved sales for many related industries, such as yacht caterers, clothing, chandlers, and boat builders.

Increased investment in coastal areas for recreational activities is also increasing, such as fishing tourism, charter expeditions, and other water activities that will attract yachting crowds to certain destinations.

One final factor, and one for which many high-end boat manufacturers achieve success, is that of innovation in design and technology. Newer features, more modern designs, and a range of performance, safety, and durability enhancements are listed as major reasons people buy a yacht or upgrade their current vessel.

In the U.S., the sales for all types of yacht, including super yachts, flybridge yachts, racing yachts, sport yachts, and long range yachts, are expected to increase from to $2.2 billion in 2020 at a rate higher than the global average.

Globally and in the U.S., the fast-growing segment of the market will be in the Sport Yacht or Racing Yacht category. Countries like France and China have seen large increases in the number of people involved in boating and marine tourism, sports tournaments, and other cruising and water sports.
